I did explore the flickr website. I was looking for a picture that looked like my new puppy that is a Yorkshire Terrier and is 6 months old. I typed in the search button, and first only two pictures came up, but gave me the option of yorkie, dog, terrier, and each of these had a lot of pictures. I took the video tutorial, and read the privacy section. One of the problems, that I had was the picture that I really wanted did not have a blog this on it, and could not find out to do it. I went back and read the instructions, but could not find the edit by the privacy indicator to change it to public so I assumed it could not be changed. It also showed how we could upload photos to share with others. It was interested on how to use the Creative Commons site to be able use pictures that were not copyrighted.

Thing #3

As stated previously, I had difficulty in getting my image to show on the screen, but once I did get it and was able to start choosing the things that I wanted it was a lot of fun. I had thought that it was to be a library setting, and so that is the background that I chose. Since my eyes are green, it was good that that color was available. There were so many styles to pick from, but being me, I wanted to look professional. It will be easy to go in and change the avatar to make it more of what you want. In fact last night, I added a scarf and some earrings. This was a great exercise.

Thing #4

Some of the ways that I thought of that we can use the blog in our library program are:

In our Pirates Read book Club, we already have a blog that we use to post the students reactions to the books that we are reading so we could move that to this blog.

We can post photos of activities, such as Teen Read Week, and let students place thier comments on them.

For research units done in the library, such as Medieval done by Senior English classes, gather and organize Internet rsources for that specific research project , providing links to appropriate sites and annotating what is revlevant about the links. Similiar to what we do on Pathfinder.

As I learn, I would be able to provide some how-to's on using specific technology such as podcasting, Flickr, YouTube, etc, for students and teachers.

Thing #2

The habit of the lifelong learning habits that is easiest for me is that I do accept responsible for my own learning. I know that it is my responsible and I must make the time and try to avoid interruptions and adjust my schedule to do the things that I need to do. The habit that is most difficult for me is to begin with the end in the mind. Yes, I can see some of things that I want to learn, but without knowing everything that is available I cannot see the end. Also, I cannot see how all of these can be used for the students with some of the restriction that we put on their computer use.

Thing #1

I want to learn as much as possible from Web 2 so that I may help students, as well as to know what they are talking about when they are discussing YouTube, etc. Then I want to be able to assimilate the information in the lessons that are presented in the library.

The blog was very easy to set up once I was past getting a name that had not been used. The avatar was very difficult to use. When trying to even get it to appear, I had to go in and out about 5 times to get it to show on the screen. After finally getting it to make my image, then the instructions for exporting were not easy to follow. I still don't have it exactly where I want it, but will continue to work to get in the right location.
